Sustainable Business Awards

The 2009-10 Sustainable Business Awards are now open for entries!

We will be accepting applications between November 2009 and January 2010. Please follow the links below to download the application form for your choice of category. Each form also includes accompanying guidance notes with examples of the practices and measures we will be looking for. Please ensure that you read the guidance notes before submitting your form.

Shortlisted finalists and special guests will gather at a gala dinner and ceremony in May 2010 to see the winners announced. Click on the 'case studies' tab at the top of this page to see what past winners did to gain their awards.

Sponsors:
The awards would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Please take a moment to find out who they are.

The categories:

Micro-Business: Overall sustainability performance for businesses of ten employees or fewer from any sector.

Small Business: Overall sustainability performance for businesses of 11-50 employees from any sector

Medium Business: Overall sustainability performance for businesses of 51-250 employees

Large Business: Overall sustainability performance for businesses of over 251 employees

Environmental Innovation and Technology: Development of a technology, process or application which through its innovation results in significant environmental performance improvements or benefits

Leadership: For past awards winners who can demonstrate exceptional continued improvement following their earlier success

Sustainable Built Environment: NEW CATEGORY: For any project or development relating to the built environment which brings environmental improvements or reduces impacts

The process:

To ease the process, all businesses are invited to make an initial application where they can explain in a brief, free-text format why they believe their organisation should qualify for an award. Shortlisting decisions will be made purely on the content of these initial application forms.

Shortlisted businesses will then be invited in the New Year to complete a fuller form which will help the assessor to produce as full a report as possible on their behalf. Each shortlisted business will be visited by an expert assessor from a professional organisation working in the sustainability field and serving as a partner within the SBP.

In April the Assessor’s report will provide the evidence which will be then considered by an independent panel of judges. The judges’ decision will be kept strictly secret until the announcement of the winners at a celebration dinner and ceremony in May 2010.

Following the awards, the inspirational examples captured will be produced as a series of case studies which will in turn be used to support and encourage the next round of applicants, ensuring that as many businesses as possible benefit from the process.
